About
Originally named SOSage Factory, Solihull Youth Theatre was formed in 1993 following the Solihull Operatic Society’s production of Oliver!, which featured many young performers. Inspired by their enthusiasm, Pat Sherrington-Blane, the Society’s Chairman at the time, set about creating a dedicated youth section with the support of a committed and talented team, which included Syd Reeves, Mandy White, Malcolm Speake, Andy Moore, Steve Hughes, Lucilla Lang, Liz and Mick Redston, Eddie Cordwell and Melanie O’Donnell.
Sandy Green (the society's fantastic make-up artist at the time) had the inspiration to name the group S(olihull) O(peratic) S(ociety’s) AGE FACTORY.
In September 1993, around 35 young people attended the very first rehearsal, marking the beginning of SOSage Factory.
Since then, the group has gone from strength to strength, presenting an annual show each February at The Core Theatre, as well as a summer concert at Knowle Village Hall.
The company made the decision to change the name to Solihull Youth Theatre in 2026 to better represent what the society did, and so new members may find them more easily.
When our performers reach the age of 18, most continue onto our big sister company, Solihull On Stage.
To date, over 500 young people from across the borough and beyond have been part of Solihull Youth Theatre, developing confidence, creativity and a lifelong love of performing.
