Dan Tomson

When were you part of SOSage Factory, and what shows were you involved in?

I had the great pleasure of being part of SOSage Factory when it was first formed back in 1993, and stayed with them until 2001 when I went to University. I performed in The Mikado, The Boyfriend, Love from Judy, Half a Sixpence, Dazzle and Bugsy Malone. We also did a raft of concerts in between them.

What are you doing now?

Workwise I develop product ranges for an Automotive & Leisure company here in the West Midlands. Outside of work I continue to perform on stage and have just started rehearsing for Jekyll & Hyde the Musical with Solihull on Stage (SOS), as well as being apart of Crescendo Vocal Harmony.

What did being part of SOSage Factory mean to you?

SOSage was a huge part of my childhood. It inspired me to perform on stage and deepened my love of singing. It has always held a special place in my heart, and I’ve enjoyed staying involved over the years, whether watching shows or joining the Production Team on a couple of occasions. Now I get to watch my daughter, Amelia, perform with them, which makes it feel as though things have come full circle.

Are there any particular memories, friendships or experiences that have stayed with you?

Too many to choose from to be honest, but I am still friends with so many of the people I was in SOSage Factory with, it really helped form friendships for life. The leaders have always been so encouraging and really do want the best for all of the members.

Do you think being part of the youth theatre has had an impact on where you are today? a. If so, how?

Absolutely, I think it helped form the person I am today. My confidence to stand up in large groups of people and present definitely came from it as well as my desire to continue performing as a hobby. I think youth theatre is such a great way for young people to build confidence, form friendships and grow as a person.

What would you say to a young person thinking about joining Solihull Youth Theatre today?

To jump in with both feet. They are such a warm, fun and welcoming group who are passionate about having fun together and helping people come out of their shell.
