When were you part of SOSage Factory, and what shows were you involved in?

In the cast:

1996 - SOSage Sizzle

1997 - Love From Judy

1999 - Half a Sixpence

2000 - Dazzle

2000 - The Jericho Enigma

In the Band:

2001 - Bugsy Malone

What are you doing now?

I work as a freelance woodwind multi-instrumentalist. I play for west end theatre (including Disney’s Hercules, Paddington, The Devil Wears Prada, Beetlejuice, Disney’s Frozen, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Top Hat, Follies, Everybody’s talking about Jamie plus many more), I play in symphony orchestras, for pop bands, for film and tv recordings.

What did being part of SOSage Factory mean to you?

SOSage was where I discovered my love of theatre, and where I got to mix with people with the same interests as me.

Are there any particular memories, friendships or experiences that have stayed with you?

Recently I had the opportunity to conduct my first west end show (Disney’s Hercules) as a cover conductor for when the regular conductor was unavailable. On the day of my first conduct I got a message from Melanie (who when I was in Sosage used to play piano for the rehearsals and shows) saying she’d just watched the show. Amazing that she remembered me from all those years ago and took the time to message.

Do you think being part of the youth theatre has had an impact on where you are today? If so, how?

Without Sosage, I definitely wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now. I would never have dreamed that someone could make a living out of playing instruments. Sosage gave me the confidence to go after my dream.

What would you say to a young person thinking about joining Solihull Youth Theatre today?

You’ll experience the most wonderful, life changing time in sosage. You’ll make friends which will stay with you. You’ll laugh a lot. And you’ll get to experience the magic of theatre that most people never get to see.

Anything else to add?

Working in the entertainment industry has given me the opportunity to travel the world, visit places I could never have dreamt of and meet some of the most wonderful, kind, funny people.
