Sarah Golby
When were you part of SOSage Factory, and what shows were you involved in?
I started performing with SOSage when I was 10 and moved to the production team as choreographer when I was 18 until I was 40, with a few little breaks for good behaviour. I've been privileged to do so many amazing shows with the group.
What are you doing now?
I'm now working as a choreographer for Solihull on Stage, and split my day job as Director of a microbrand watch company and a Development Officer.
What did being part of SOSage Factory mean to you?
It meant that I belonged somewhere. A place that I could be creative, to challenge and push myself out of my comfort zone. As a naturally quiet/introverted person the group allowed me to just be me and do what I enjoyed without taking itself too seriously.
Are there any particular memories, friendships or experiences that have stayed with you?
The majority of my friends today are people I met through SOSage. School wasn't always a great experience, but seeing my friends at the weekend and creating so many precious moments with them was amazing.
Do you think being part of the youth theatre has had an impact on where you are today? If so, how?
Most definitely, it built my confidence and gave me experiences that have led me to pursue my career. I'm eternally grateful to all the leaders that show up every week and give their time to help support and build the members.
What would you say to a young person thinking about joining Solihull Youth Theatre today?
Fight the nerves and go along to give it a try. You never know, 30 years from now you might be asked to write a testimonial for the group that shaped so much of your life to encourage new members to join!
